Ethenticity, Guilt-fil-A, Dark Knight

Ethenticity (ɛɵɛn’tɪsɪti): the quality of being authentically ethnic, as opposed to an Americanized version of a certain ethnic group’s customs, clothing, food, or general culture. I love that restaurant because it has some real ethenticity, it’s not the kind of Mexican place where you go for just a pepper-jack and frozen veggie quesadilla, you know?

Guilt-fil-A (gɪlt fɪl eɪ): a sense of guilt stemming from the use of a commercialized product despite personal, moral qualms about the belief systems of the manufacturer. I just had a Chick-fil-A sandwich while buying a new iPod. I think I’m going to be sick from all my Guilt-fil-A. Origin: taken from the Chick-fil-A fast food franchise, which has openly come out as against homosexuality, despite having delicious sandwiches

Dark Knight (dɑrk naɪt): 1. A knight that, instead of saving the damsel in distress and carrying her home on his white horse, lacks any chivalry whatsoever and instead is the type of dude who steals her jewelry while she’s tied up, or forces her to marry an ugly king in exchange for a new horse. Seriously? I ask you to help me with my groceries and you stole my Cheezits? Don’t be such a Dark Knight. Antonym: White Knight

2. Another name for the fictional superhero, Batman, made popular by the title of Christopher Nolan’s second movie adaptation “The Dark Knight.” Archnemisis: There are many, but the Joker is still our favorite. “Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Dark Knight.”
